Government committed to squatters’ rights, no need to create panic: Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rabi Lamichhane, has urged political parties not to exaggerate unnecessary issues and create suspicion among the public.

Speaking at the closing session of a two-day training program organized for the party’s lawmakers in Lalitpur on Sunday, Lamichhane said the government has been working to establish order during the past one and a half months under the leadership of senior leader Balen Shah.

He argued that the mandate received by the party was not for continuity of past practices, but for change, adding that the government was therefore trying to move forward differently.

Lamichhane instructed lawmakers to play a constructive role, saying that citizens, society and the country were closely watching them.

Referring to issues related to squatters and landless people, he said the government remains committed to providing rights to the landless as promised during the elections, and insisted there was no need to sensationalize the government’s efforts in this regard.

He also stated that the recommendation for the chief justice had been made in accordance with constitutional provisions.

Lamichhane further said ordinances had been introduced to address the country’s problems and clarified that the party-led government would not act against public interest.

Stating that the party remains concerned about public trust and the country’s future, he said it would not engage in any activity that could harm the nation.

He also advised lawmakers to focus on drafting laws needed by the country through Parliament rather than trying to go viral.
