BAGLUNG: The concept of ‘One House, One Tap’ has been implemented in Deuralikhani Majhgaun of Jaimini Municipality–3, Baglung, with drinking water taps installed in every household.
The project was carried out with support from the Gorkha Welfare Trust Nepal along with local public labour contributions. According to Deuralikhani Majhgaun Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumers Committee Chairperson Bedh Bahadur Chhantyal, the project was completed at a total cost of Rs 4.5 million, of which Rs 3.6 million was provided by the Gorkha Welfare Trust and the remaining amount was contributed by locals.
Although the water source is located nearby, residents had long faced difficulties due to lack of easy access. Water is now being supplied to every household from the Chharchhere spring above Majhgaun through a pipeline system. The project includes two storage tanks of 2,000 litres each and two tanks of 5,000 litres capacity, ensuring regular supply to all households.
“There was a long-standing drinking water problem in the village, and we have been working to resolve it,” Chairperson Chhantyal said. “After taps were installed in every house, residents are very happy, and this has already begun changing daily life.”
Until now, locals had been relying on a public tap built by the Kaduri organization in 2053 BS, where long queues were common as many families depended on a single source.
Local resident Mankumari Chhantyal said the new system has made life much easier. “We used to face daily struggles because many families depended on one tap. We had to worry about water from morning to evening. Now we can get water whenever needed just by opening a tap at home,” she said.
Deputy Mayor of Jaimini Municipality Harihar Sharma said the municipality has been working to address drinking water problems in rural settlements. He noted that migration from some villages had been linked to water scarcity, but assured that efforts are underway so that no citizen is deprived of clean drinking water.
He added that smaller drinking water issues have already been resolved locally, while larger projects are being implemented in coordination with provincial and federal governments as well as partner organizations.
