PORT LOUIS: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and his Indian counterpart, Dr. S. Jaishankar, held a bilateral meeting on Friday on the sidelines of the 9th Indian Ocean Conference in Mauritius.

Following the meeting, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar took to social media platform X to congratulate Minister Khanal on his recent appointment. He noted that their discussions focused on expanding cooperation across various sectors to realize the full potential of the India-Nepal relationship.

The talks centered on deepening the bilateral partnership through enhanced collaboration in economic development and other strategic areas.

Minister Khanal had left for Port Louis on Thursday at the invitation of Dr. Jaishankar to address the three-day conference, which runs from April 10 to April 12.

During the summit, Minister Khanal is expected to present Nepal’s perspective on the ecological link between the Himalayas and the ocean, as well as the importance of maritime connectivity for the economic development of landlocked nations.

In addition to his meeting with Jaishankar, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to hold several bilateral talks with counterparts from other participating nations before returning to Nepal on Monday.
