Police committed to citizens’ security even in difficult times: IGP Karki

KATHMANDU: Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki has said that despite challenging circumstances and significant losses, the Nepal Police continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Traffic Accident Reduction Special Campaign and Traffic Week 2082, organized by the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Office, IGP Karki recalled the destruction caused during the Gen-Z protests, when several police offices and buildings were set on fire and traffic police structures and equipment were severely damaged.

IGP Karki urged that Traffic Week, 2082 should not be seen merely as a formal program but as a meaningful campaign to raise citizen awareness on road safety. He expressed confidence that everyone, from drivers to pedestrians, would comply fully with traffic rules. He stressed that the active support, cooperation and participation of the public is crucial for the campaign’s success.

At the program, Kathmandu Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol highlighted that traffic rules are frequently violated by both the educated class and the general public, and such violations should be addressed through this campaign.

The campaign will continue until January 17.
