Nepali Congress Central Working Committee passes condolence motion on Homnath Dahal’s demise

KATHMANDU: The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Nepali Congress has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former central committee member and senior journalist Homnath Dahal and passed a condolence motion in his honor.

An emergency CWC meeting held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka concluded that the passing of 84-year-old Dahal in Kathmandu on Friday was an irreparable loss to the party.

The late Dahal was a former president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, editor and publisher of the weekly Rastrapukar, and former chair of the Gorkhapatra Corporation.

A veteran of Nepal’s democratic movement, Dahal had spent several stints in jail during the struggle for democracy. He was elected to the House of Representatives from Okhaldhunga Constituency-1 in the 1999 general election and later served as Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives.

The Nepali Congress recalled that Dahal played a leading role in strengthening the party organization and advancing the democratic movement while serving in various party responsibilities. The CWC said the party has lost a senior, experienced and committed leader.

In his memory, the party has also announced a mourning programme. According to the schedule, party flags will be flown at half-mast at the central, provincial and district offices from January 10 to 12. All party offices at the central, provincial and district levels will remain closed on January 11.

Similarly, condolence books will be kept at the central, provincial and district offices for 13 days, and a memorial meeting will be organized on the 13th day in Okhaldhunga district.
