KATHMANDU: The Bhrikutimandap area in Kathmandu has begun to witness a growing crowd of Nepali Congress general convention delegates and party workers even before the party’s special general convention formally gets underway.
With representatives arriving in the federal capital from different districts across the country, the atmosphere around the convention venue has become increasingly busy and vibrant.
Central Committee member Ajay Babu Shiwakoti said delegates have started reaching Bhrikutimandap for the special general convention scheduled for Sunday and Monday. He added that stage construction, hall decoration and technical arrangements have reached the final stage.
According to the Convention Management Committee, work related to delegate registration, distribution of identity cards and coordination of accommodation is progressing simultaneously. As delegates continue to arrive, volunteers have been mobilised to make venue management more efficient, said Susan Baidya, Member Secretary of the Public Mobilisation Committee.
Similarly, Madhav Chamlagain, Member Secretary of the Publicity Committee, said preparations have been intensified for placing party flags, banners and other promotional materials in and around the Bhrikutimandap premises. He said arrangements related to entry gates, security coordination and traffic management are also being stepped up.
The special general convention, called with the direct involvement of party General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, is being viewed as politically significant in terms of internal debates within the Nepali Congress. As a result, not only delegates but also party supporters and well-wishers have been travelling to Kathmandu in large numbers.
The Public Mobilisation Committee has estimated that a large number of party workers and supporters will be present during the opening session of the convention.
