54 days for polls: Code of conduct to take effect from Jan 17

KATHMANDU: With just 54 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) elections, the Election Commission (EC) is set to enforce the Election Code of Conduct from January 17, aiming to ensure a level playing field and transparent electoral process ahead of the March 5 polls.

The EC has briefed Prime Minister Sushila Karki on the progress made so far regarding election preparations. The code of conduct clearly outlines the ‘dos and don’ts’ for government and non-government bodies, as well as the responsibilities of political parties and other stakeholders, to maintain electoral fairness.

According to EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari informed the Prime Minister on Friday about key aspects of the preparation process, including printing of election materials, human resource management, and overall election management.

The Commission emphasized that strict compliance with the code of conduct requires active cooperation from the government, political parties, and all concerned stakeholders.
