60 Israeli volunteers complete school volunteering program in Nepal

KATHMANDU: A group of 60 Israeli volunteers from Heroes for Life, an Israeli non-governmental organisation (NGO), has completed a volunteering programme at eight government and public schools in Kathmandu and Lalitpur, along with a two-day engagement with the Down Syndrome Society Nepal.

The programme aimed to promote fun and creative learning activities that encourage students to think beyond conventional approaches. The volunteers also participated in school renovation projects, including painting and creating artistic murals.

The volunteers arrived in Nepal in two batches of 30. The first group carried out its activities from September 4 to 17, while the second group volunteered from September 28 to October 8.

The initiative covered eight schools: Prabhat Secondary School, Hindu Vidyapeeth, Shanti Sikshya Mandir, Kitini Higher Secondary School, Annapurna Secondary School, Shree Narayan Jan Secondary School, Panchayan Celestial School and Shree Nandi Ratri Secondary School.

To honour the volunteers, Israeli Embassy Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Janan Bebar hosted a farewell ceremony, acknowledging their commitment to supporting local communities.

Addressing the ceremony, Bebar said resilience and giving back to society were integral to Israeli culture. She noted that the volunteers had translated these values into action through their contributions to schools and local communities, while strengthening the bonds of friendship between Nepal and Israel.

As part of its ongoing engagement in Nepal, Heroes for Life returns to the same schools annually with new groups of volunteers, bringing fresh perspectives and energy while maintaining continuity and ensuring a lasting impact. The organisation also partners with new schools each year to expand its reach in coordination with the Israeli Embassy in Nepal.

In addition to their work in schools, the volunteers spent two days supporting the Down Syndrome Society Nepal, interacting with children under its care and participating in painting and renovation activities at the organisation’s premises.
