KATHMANDU: A total of 1,367 bodies have been recovered so far following the devastating flash floods that struck the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems on August 26. Wednesday marks the 16th day since the disaster.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the recovered bodies include 174 from Rasuwa, 197 from Nuwakot, 70 from Dhading, 75 from Gorkha, 38 from Tanahun, 363 from Chitwan, 226 from Nawalparasi East and 222 from Nawalparasi West.
NDRRMA Spokesperson Shanti Mahat said 102 of the recovered bodies have so far been identified and handed over to their families.
The number of people officially listed as missing stands at 5,132. The list includes 45 Nepali Army personnel, 25 Nepal Police personnel, 12 Armed Police Force personnel, 73 government employees, 26 employees of banks and financial institutions, and around 589 foreign tourists.
Security agencies have intensified search and rescue operations in the affected areas.
A total of 13,646 people have been rescued so far, while 3,628 displaced people are currently staying at holding centres in Nuwakot, Dhading, Rasuwa and Kathmandu.
Similarly, 7,151 people have received medical treatment following the disaster. Security agencies, local governments, and various government and non-government organizations are continuing search, rescue, relief and other disaster-management operations on a priority basis.
