KATHMANDU: Monsoon-related landslides, flash floods, and road erosion have blocked multiple highway sections in districts including Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Ilam, Tehrathum, and Rukum West, affecting transportation services.
According to details of road disruptions as of Sunday morning, Nepal Police Headquarters said traffic has been affected on the Mid-Hill Highway in Tehrathum, the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchowk, the Mechi Highway in Ilam, the Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubensi road in Rasuwa, and the Bheri Corridor in Rukum West.
Considering the potential risk of flooding on the BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, all types of vehicles have been prohibited from operating on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section between 6:00 pm and 4:00 am. Vehicle movement has been allowed from 4:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Similarly, the operation of all vehicles has been banned on the Kanti Lokpath in Makawanpur from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am during the rainy season.
Traffic has been completely disrupted on the Mechi Highway in Rajduwali of Ilam Municipality-9 after rainfall turned the road muddy. Police said an alternative route is available in the area.
Several sections of the Araniko Highway have been fully obstructed due to landslides and road subsidence in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, including Jirokilo, Kodari, and Liping areas of Sindhupalchowk. Traffic has also been affected in Dumre of Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality-9.
The Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubensi road has been completely blocked by erosion in Khalte of Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa.
Likewise, the Jajarkot-Dolpa section of the Bheri Corridor at Rizegard Khola in Aathbiskot Municipality-6 of Rukum West has been fully blocked by landslides. The Mid-Hill Highway near Pingwakhola in Kade of Laligurans Municipality-9, Tehrathum, has also been completely obstructed due to landslides.
Police have urged the public to obtain updated information on road conditions from the concerned authorities before traveling, as the risk of landslides, floods, and road erosion remains high during the monsoon season.
