KATHMANDU: Former national cricketer Shakti Gauchan has been defeated in the election for the president of the Rupandehi District Cricket Association. Hari Bahadur Thapa has been re-elected for a second term, defeating Gauchan.
In the election, Thapa secured 69 votes, while his closest rival Gauchan received 49 votes. Thapa had also defeated Gauchan in the previous election held four years ago.
Both candidates contested the election with separate panels.
In other results, Khemraj Bhusal was elected vice-president, Uday Kumar Mallik as secretary, and Dhiraj Adhikari Kshetri as treasurer.
According to election officer Prakash Neupane, Uma Adhikari was elected as a women’s member. Other elected members include Prashant Bikram Mall, Niraj Pratap Khan, Punit Pokharel, Manoj Bhandari, Bhuwan Pandey, Bijay Singh Gyanwali, Krishna Kumar Kunwar, Jwalesh Prasad Pradhan, Antim Thapa, and Tara Prasad Pathak.
Some local sports stakeholders have expressed concern over panel-based politics in district cricket, saying it could affect the development of the game.
