KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal left for Port Louis in the Mauritius on Wednesday to participate in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference 2026.
Khanal is attending the conference at the invitation of India’s Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar. The event is scheduled to take place from April 10 to 12 under the theme “Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance.”
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal, the conference is being organised by the India Foundation in association with the Government of Mauritius.
During the conference, Minister Khanal will deliver Nepal’s national statement, outlining the country’s perspectives on Indian Ocean governance, the mountain-ocean ecological nexus, and the importance of maritime connectivity for economic development.
On the sidelines of the event, he is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from participating countries.
Minister Khanal is expected to return to Nepal on April 13.
