Western low pressure system to trigger rain and snowfall

KATHMANDU: Weather conditions across the country have turned unstable due to the influence of a western low pressure system combined with local winds.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in parts of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, the hilly regions of Koshi Province, and some areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous regions, including Koshi Province, while other parts of the country will see partly cloudy conditions.

There is a likelihood of moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning in some hilly and mountainous areas, as well as in parts of Madhesh Province.

Tonight, the weather will remain generally cloudy in the hilly regions, including Koshi Province, partly cloudy in the remaining hilly areas, and mostly clear in the Terai.

Light rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is possible in some areas of the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in other mountainous regions.

The Department has urged the public, especially in areas prone to rainfall and snowfall, as well as transport operators, to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
