Iran warns of retaliation if Israeli strikes on Lebanon continue

TEHRAN: Iran has warned it will take strong retaliatory action if Israel does not immediately halt its attacks on Lebanon.

According to state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said any continued strikes would be met with a “regret-inducing response.”

Israel and the United States have clarified that Lebanon is not covered under the recently proposed two-week ceasefire arrangement with Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Israel has inflicted its “strongest blow” on Hezbollah since launching ground operations in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said US Vice-President JD Vance will head a US delegation for peace talks scheduled in Pakistan on Saturday as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Iran has also issued a warning regarding maritime security, stating that vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz without authorization would be “targeted and destroyed,” insisting the route remains closed. However, Leavitt said former President Donald Trump wants the strategic waterway reopened without restrictions.

Despite the ceasefire announcement, reports indicate that attacks have continued in regions including the UAE, Kuwait, and at an oil refinery in southern Iran.

Adding to tensions, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that three provisions of the ceasefire agreement have already been “clearly and openly violated.”
