Shram Sanskriti Party close to national party status as vote count continues

KATHMANDU: The Shram Sanskriti Party, led by Harka Sampang, is on the verge of being recognized as a national party as vote counting under the proportional representation (PR) system continues across the country.

According to the latest vote count, the party has secured 304,366 votes under the PR category. The party contested the election with the ‘Soil’ election symbol.

Based on the current tally, Shram Sanskriti is almost certain to secure at least four seats under the proportional representation system, which would allow it to qualify as a national party.

If the party wins four PR seats, it will add them to the three seats it has already secured in the first-past-the-post elections, enabling it to achieve national party status in its very first electoral contest.

According to the Election Commission Nepal, around two million votes are still left to be counted across the country.

The ongoing vote count indicates that several parties are likely to qualify as national parties, including the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Nepali Congress, UML, Nepali Communist Party, and the Shram Sanskriti Party.

Among other parties, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has secured 282,672 votes so far and remains in a close race to achieve national party status. The monarchist-leaning party could still reach the required threshold if its total vote count crosses around 325,000 by the end of the final tally.
