Nepal, Qatar discuss economic cooperation, tourism promotion and aviation expansion

KATHMANDU: Discussions have been held on promoting Nepal–Qatar economic development, tourism promotion, and cooperation exchange, with a focus on expanding aviation ties between the two countries.

The meeting involved Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha, Qatari Ambassador to Nepal Mishal M. Al Ansari, and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal, along with Qatari business leaders and representatives of Qatar Airways.

Issues related to the expansion of direct flights, civil aviation cooperation, and the possibility of deepening collaboration between Nepal Airlines and Qatar Airways, including the addition of new destinations, were discussed.

During the meeting, Minister Sinha said greater participation of international airlines is essential to operate Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport at full capacity. He emphasized the potential role of Qatar Airways in this effort and assured that the government is committed to policy-level reforms and facilitation to encourage international carriers.

FNCCI President Dhakal highlighted opportunities for cooperation between Nepal and Qatar in tourism, investment, aviation, hospitality, and infrastructure development. He also invited Qatari investors to explore opportunities in agriculture, hydropower, and the service sector in Nepal.

A board member of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed interest in Nepal’s aviation and tourism sectors, stating that enhanced cooperation could strengthen trade and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

The Qatari business delegation arrived in Nepal on Sunday at the invitation of the Nepal–Qatar Joint Business Council.
