DAMAULI: Physical progress on the 140-MW Tanahun Hydropower Project has reached 78 percent, with construction advancing across all three packages of the project in Jhaputar, Rishing Rural Municipality-1, Tanahun.
Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari said work is progressing significantly under all three packages. Package 1 covers the dam and other headworks, Package 2 includes the main tunnel, powerhouse and related equipment, while Package 3 involves construction of the Damauli-Bharatpur 220-kV transmission line.
Under Package 1, the dam and other headworks are being constructed by Songda Kalika JV. Physical progress under the package has reached 63 percent, Bhandari said. Construction of the main dam, access road, temporary dam for diverting the Seti River and two diversion tunnels has been completed.
Concreting for the 140-metre-high dam began on Chaitra 7, 2081 BS, with the placement of the first concrete. A total of 33,681 cubic metres of concrete was placed in Bhadra alone, bringing the cumulative volume to 507,442 cubic metres.
Under Package 2, Sino Hydro Corporation of China is carrying out construction of the powerhouse and related structures. Bhandari said most of the civil works have been completed, including major concreting works at the powerhouse, cable tunnel, surge tank and tailrace. Physical progress under this package has reached 79 percent.
Concrete lining work is currently underway in the main tunnel, which will carry water from the reservoir to the powerhouse. Of the total 1,418.75 metres of lining required, 1,407.75 metres has been completed.
Under Package 3, KEC International Limited of India is constructing the 33-kilometre Damauli-Bharatpur 220-kV transmission line. Foundation work has been completed for 83 of the 94 transmission towers, while 80 towers have been erected.
Bhandari said construction of the transmission line has gained momentum after the Division Forest Offices in Chitwan and Tanahun granted permission to enter forest areas and cut trees required for the project. Physical progress under the package has reached 82 percent.
