JUMLA: The Karnali Province government has declared a public holiday in Jumla district today on the occasion of the annual Lingo-pulling ceremony (sacred wooden pole) at the Chandannath and Bhairavnath temples.
Laxmi Kumar BK, provincial secretary at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, said the holiday was declared as the ceremony is held every year on Ashoj Krishna Trayodashi.
The traditional ceremony involves pulling down the Lingo, a ceremonial wooden pole, at the Chandannath and Bhairavnath temples.
Raj Bahadur Mahat, coordinator of Civil Society Jumla, said there is a tradition of removing the old Lingo and installing a new one on the temple’s annual foundation day.
The ceremony is observed as an important religious and cultural tradition in Jumla every year.
