KATHMANDU: The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has been actively providing humanitarian assistance as part of its disaster response since the floods of August 26.
Recently, the NRCS distributed essential food supplies to residents of Uttargaya Rural Municipality-2, an area that has remained cut off from the road network since the devastating Bhotekoshi floods. The August 26 floods caused extensive destruction along the Bhotekoshi corridor and settlements along the Trishuli River.
The NRCS airlifted humanitarian supplies to the affected area and distributed essential items to 60 households.
NRCS Chairman Dr. Bishal Bhandari, along with Red Cross volunteers, handed over the emergency supplies to affected residents. The assistance was supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
“NRCS volunteers have been mobilized in flood-affected areas to ensure that relief distribution is carried out effectively. Red Cross volunteers are also facilitating and coordinating search, rescue, and relief efforts in the flood-hit districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading,” Dr. Bhandari said.
Meanwhile, a Red Cross emergency clinic has been established in coordination with the Health Section of Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot. The clinic is operating on the premises of Nuwakot Adarsha Multiple Campus in Battar and is providing health services to flood-affected people currently staying in relief camps.
According to the NRCS, the facility provides outpatient services, psychosocial counseling, medicines prescribed by doctors, mobile services to promote community health and sanitation, and referrals for further treatment.
