KATHMANDU: Traffic movement has been affected in multiple districts after continuous rainfall triggered landslides and road damage on major highways, including the Araniko, Mechi, and Mid-Hill highways. Authorities have imposed time-based restrictions on some vulnerable road sections.
According to details released by Nepal Police Headquarters this morning, transportation has been affected on the Mid-Hill Highway in Tehrathum, Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchowk, Mechi Highway in Ilam, Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi Road in Rasuwa, Nagma-Gamgadhi Road in Mugu, Bheri Corridor in Rukum West, and Salleri-Lukla Road in Solukhumbu.
Considering the potential risk of flooding along the BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, all types of vehicles have been banned from operating on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi road section from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am. Vehicle movement has been allowed from 4:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Similarly, all types of vehicles have been prohibited from operating on the Kanti Lokpath from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am during the rainy season.
Traffic has been completely disrupted after the road at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 along the Mechi Highway became muddy due to rainfall. An alternative route has been brought into operation in the area.
Several sections of the Araniko Highway have been completely blocked following landslides and road collapse in the Jirokilo, Kodari, and Liping areas of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchowk.
Traffic has also been disrupted on the Lamosanghu-Ramechhap road section after the Sunkoshi River washed away part of the road at Kirnetar in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5 of Dolakha. However, an alternative route has been arranged through the premises of the Khimti Rural Electricity Cooperative Society.
Likewise, the Salleri-Lukla road under the Nildorje tourist road section in Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality-1 of Solukhumbu and the Mid-Hill Highway near Kade Pingwakhola in Laligurans Municipality-9 of Tehrathum have been blocked by landslides.
Police have urged the public to obtain updated information on road conditions from the concerned authorities before traveling, as the risk of landslides, floods, and road erosion remains high during the monsoon season.
