Monsoon active across Nepal, heavy rain likely today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions remain active across Nepal, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting widespread cloud cover and rainfall in many parts of the country.

Heavy rain is likely in some hilly and mountainous areas, raising concerns over floods and landslides. The weather is generally cloudy in the Himalayan and hilly regions of the country, including Koshi, Madhes, and Bagmati provinces, while conditions are partly cloudy to mostly clear in the Terai.

Meanwhile, light rain accompanied by thunder is occurring in some places of Bagmati Province, while one or two places in Koshi, Madhes, and Lumbini provinces are also receiving light rainfall.

The Division has forecast generally cloudy weather across the country this afternoon. There is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall in some mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Moderate rainfall is likely in many hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces and in some hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Moderate rainfall is also expected in some parts of the Terai.

The Ddivision has warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall in one or two places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the country. Moderate rain and snowfall are likely in some mountainous and hilly regions.

Moderate rainfall is also expected in some Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Madhes, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while one or two hilly areas of Karnali Province may receive heavy rainfall.

The Division has urged residents in vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions, as heavy rain may increase the risk of flash floods, floods, landslides, and soil erosion. It has also warned that the weather may affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation.
