KATHMANDU: The meeting of the House of Representatives has resumed after being briefly suspended following a dispute over remarks directed at Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal.
The meeting was disrupted shortly after it began when lawmakers from opposition parties, including the main opposition, stood in protest.
During the session, CPN-UML lawmaker Rajendra Kumar Rai started speaking, prompting Speaker Aryal to instruct him to stop and take his seat. Following the instruction, other UML lawmakers also stood in protest.
Meanwhile, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Tika Sangraula (Jwala) raised a point of order, saying the Speaker had been insulted through the remarks. After lawmaker Rai sent a message expressing regret, Speaker Aryal allowed him to continue speaking.
However, as the dispute escalated, Speaker Aryal suspended the meeting for 15 minutes.
At the beginning of Wednesday’s meeting, several lawmakers had demanded clarification from Prime Minister Balen Shah over his recent remarks related to border issues.
Earlier, Speaker Aryal had given time to Nepali Congress lawmaker Pramila Kumari Gachchhadar to address the House. Gachchhadar complained that repeated concerns raised by lawmakers had not received a clear response from the government.
