Heavy rain warning issued for several provinces today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds are currently influencing weather conditions across Nepal.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon trough lies south of its average position in the eastern region and near its average position in the western region.

The Division said the weather is generally cloudy nationwide. Moderate to heavy rainfall is occurring in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, while isolated rainfall has been reported in Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in many places, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely in some areas of the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

A few places in the hilly regions of Madhesh and Karnali provinces may also receive rainfall. Light to moderate rain and snowfall are likely in some high Himalayan areas.

Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two locations in the hilly regions, while gusty winds may occur in parts of the Terai of Madhesh, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, the country is expected to remain mostly cloudy. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in many places across the hilly and Terai regions of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as the hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces and the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim.

Likewise, moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are also likely in a few high Himalayan areas. The Division has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places in the hilly and Terai regions of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

It has urged the public to remain alert and follow the latest weather updates, as heavy rainfall may trigger floods, landslides, and other monsoon-related hazards in vulnerable areas.
