Bird flu remains active in Kathmandu Valley and Kavre

LALITPUR: Although bird flu has been brought under control in most parts of the country, the infection remains active in the Kathmandu Valley and Kavrepalanchok, according to the Department of Livestock Services.

The Department said outbreaks have been contained in several districts, including Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Mahottari, Bara, and Chitwan.

Senior Veterinary Officer Dr. Mukul Upadhyaya said the situation in the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley remains stable, but the virus continues to spread rapidly in Kavrepalanchok.

According to the Department, a total of 754,500 birds, 1,091,303 eggs, and 243,635 kilograms of poultry feed have been destroyed nationwide as part of efforts to contain the outbreak.

Of these, 286,277 birds, 179,064 eggs, and 74,000 kilograms of feed were destroyed in the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley and Kavrepalanchok alone.

Dr. Upadhyaya said the department has prepared a response plan in coordination with the federal and local governments following on-site assessments of high-risk areas.

Based on the findings, authorities have continued culling infected birds and implementing other disease control measures to prevent further spread of the virus.
