Baburam quits Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister (PM) Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has quit the Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party. He had been serving as the party’s patron since its formation ahead of the March 5 elections.

Bhattarai informed the party that he wishes to remain independent and not hold any organizational responsibility. Respecting his decision, the party said it accepts his personal choice and extended best wishes for his future.

A member of the party’s chairman council said Bhattarai formally announced his departure during a meeting held on Friday.

The party also bid farewell to Sudan Kirati, who left the party and joined the Shram Sanskriti Party on the same day.

Following these departures, Santosh Pariyar will lead the Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party chairman’s council. Earlier rumors had suggested that Pariyar might also leave the party, but party leaders clarified that he will remain in the party and chair the upcoming meeting.

Bhattarai has not yet made public his next political move.
