Squatter struggle committee stages protest in Maitighar against eviction drives

KATHMANDU: The Squatter Struggle Front staged a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Friday against the government’s eviction drives.

The protesters accused the government of using bulldozers to demolish settlements across the country without providing proper alternatives or rehabilitation, leaving residents displaced and in hardship.

Participants in the demonstration chanted slogans against the government while symbolically beating plates and spoons as part of their protest.

The protesters said that removing settlements without ensuring alternative housing violates human rights and urged the government to immediately stop such actions.

They also demanded that the government identify genuine squatters and ensure proper resettlement and rehabilitation measures for affected families.
