Govt hikes public transport fares citing fuel price changes

KATHMANDU: The government has increased public transport fares, citing fluctuations in fuel prices and other economic indicators.

According to the Department of Transport Management, passenger vehicle fares have been raised by 16.71 percent.

Similarly, freight transport fares have been increased by 21.68 percent on hilly routes and 15.75 percent on Tarai routes.

The department stated that the primary reason behind the adjustment is the change in fuel prices. With the new rates in effect, the public will have to pay revised fares for both travel and goods transportation.
