Arrest warrants issued against Sher Bahadur Deuba and Arzu Rana in money laundering probe
Arrest warrants have been issued against Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife Arzu Rana Deuba. According to sources, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation obtained the warrants from the Kathmandu District Court as part of an investigation into alleged illegal asset accumulation. The Deuba couple is currently abroad. Ahead of the March 5 elections, they had traveled to Singapore for medical treatment and were later reported to have moved to Hong Kong. Earlier, during the Gen-Z protests, both Deuba and his wife were reportedly assaulted. Incidents of arson at their residence in Budhanilkantha had also drawn attention after burnt currency notes were found. Subsequently, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation carried out documentation procedures at the residence, and the investigation is now being pursued by the Central Investigation Bureau.
Deuba rejects money laundering probe reports, calls them misleading
Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has responded to media reports claiming that an investigation into alleged money laundering involving him and his family has begun, calling the reports false and misleading. Currently in Hong Kong for medical treatment, Deuba stated that he has submitted accurate details of his assets to the concerned authorities in accordance with the law during his time in public office. He emphasized his lifelong commitment to democratic governance, rule of law, an independent judiciary, and transparency, stating that his life has remained like an open book. Deuba also recalled that key anti-corruption laws were introduced during his tenure, including the law related to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority in 1991, when he served as Home Minister, and the Corruption Control Act in 2002 during his premiership.
Govt hikes public transport fares citing fuel price changes
The government has increased public transport fares, citing fluctuations in fuel prices and other economic indicators. According to the Department of Transport Management, passenger vehicle fares have been raised by 16.71 percent. Similarly, freight transport fares have been increased by 21.68 percent on hilly routes and 15.75 percent on Tarai routes. The department stated that the primary reason behind the adjustment is the change in fuel prices. With the new rates in effect, the public will have to pay revised fares for both travel and goods transportation.
Ministers receive briefing on foreign affairs and diplomatic conduct
The government has provided a briefing on foreign affairs and diplomatic conduct to members of the federal Cabinet. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a session on Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Code of Conduct for ministers of the government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah. The presentation was held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Wednesday, where Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai delivered a detailed briefing. Rai briefed ministers on the global context, Nepal’s international relations, promotion of national interests, and the country’s overall foreign policy. He also elaborated on the procedures, limitations, and diplomatic norms to be followed while conducting foreign policy, with special emphasis on policy priorities, maintaining balance in international relations, and technical aspects of diplomatic conduct.
Govt warns action against private schools over illegal fee collection
The government has directed authorities to take action against private schools found charging fees in violation of existing laws and Supreme Court orders. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has instructed the home administration and local levels to initiate action against such institutions. According to the ministry, the directive was issued on April 5 after reports that some institutional schools were enrolling students before the academic session and charging fees exceeding approved standards. Despite the order, complaints persist that some schools continue to collect fees unlawfully. Citing Section 166 (6) of the Education Act 1971 (amended), the ministry has reiterated that any illegally collected fees must be refunded to students.
NC seeks clarity from govt before joining constitution amendment task force
The main opposition Nepali Congress has requested clarification from the government regarding its participation in the task force formed to prepare a discussion paper on constitutional amendments. In a letter sent on Wednesday to the Prime Minister’s Office, Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal emphasized the need for broad consultation and consensus before any constitutional changes. While welcoming the government’s initiative, the party stressed that the 2015 constitution remains a historic achievement and its core values must not be compromised. The letter highlighted the party’s position that constitutional amendments should strengthen democracy, republicanism, federalism, inclusivity, human rights, and the rule of law, and that periodic revisions are a natural part of a democratic process. However, the party also noted that certain aspects of the task force remain unclear, including its mandate, scope, and procedures. Nepali Congress urged the government to clarify these matters to ensure meaningful participation. The party further called for clear assurances that the amendment process will be participatory, inclusive, and fair, ensuring the involvement of Madhesi, Indigenous, Dalit, Tharu, minority, and other marginalized communities.
Foreign ministry holds briefing on diplomatic conduct for ministers
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organized a special program for government ministers on foreign affairs and diplomatic code of conduct. The program is currently underway at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Wednesday morning. According to the prime minister’s private secretariat, ministers from various ministries are attending the session. Press adviser to the prime minister Deepa Dahal said officials from the foreign ministry are briefing ministers on diplomatic protocol, the importance of adhering to the code of conduct, and its effective implementation. President Paudel to address joint session of Federal Parliament
President Ram Chandra Paudel is set to address a joint meeting of both Houses of the Federal Parliament at 3 pm on Friday, April 10. The Office of the President on Wednesday sent a letter to the Parliament Secretariat requesting necessary arrangements for the address. The letter, signed by Secretary Mahadev Panth, stated that the address will be delivered on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. The joint session will bring together members of both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.

NEPSE announces share trading from Monday to Friday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has announced that share trading will now take place from Monday to Friday. Issuing a notice on Wednesday, NEPSE said the decision was made in line with the Cabinet’s decision in April 5. The government has decided that public offices will operate from 9 AM to 5 PM, with Saturday and Sunday designated as public holidays.

The Nepali Embassy in Israel has issued an ‘urgent notice’ for Nepalese citizens residing in the country, urging them to exercise caution due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The embassy, in its advisory released on Tuesday, has asked Nepalis to follow these guidelines: Remain calm, exercise restraint, and stay safe in your current location. Follow instructions issued by the Israeli Home Front Command, government authorities, and official sources. Respond immediately to alert SMS messages or sirens by moving to the nearest bomb shelter. Keep important documents such as your passport, identity card, driving license, and bank cards with you. Stay regularly updated on the latest developments. Avoid sharing war-related videos on social media. Maintain regular contact with friends, family, and relatives.
Over 7,500 disaster incidents reported nationwide in a year
A total of 7,547 disaster-related incidents were recorded across the country over the past year, directly affecting 13,504 families, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. The Authority reported that disasters such as fires, floods, landslides, heavy rainfall, lightning, forest fires, windstorms, avalanches, and animal attacks caused significant loss of life and property. Among these, fire incidents—many of which are considered preventable with basic precautions—were the most frequent. In the review period, 3,652 fire incidents were recorded, resulting in 104 deaths and 563 injuries, while directly impacting 4,182 families.
Foreign Minister Khanal, Chinese Ambassador agree to expand bilateral cooperation
Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal held a courtesy meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chang Maoming at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal reported. The two officials discussed bilateral relations, mutual interests, and practical cooperation between Nepal and China. Both sides agreed to further strengthen collaboration and enhance bilateral engagement across multiple sectors. In a statement posted on social media, the Chinese Embassy said, “We exchanged views on Nepal-China relations and practical cooperation. Gold price jumps Rs 7,200 per tola
The price of gold increased by Rs 7,200 per tola on Wednesday in the domestic market, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. With the latest rise, gold was traded at Rs 299,000 per tola, up from Rs291,800 per tola on Tuesday. The federation attributed the price hike to rising gold prices in the international market. Global gold prices climbed as crude oil prices declined following diplomatic efforts to end tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran. A week ago, on Wednesday, gold was traded at Rs 297,600 per tola in the domestic market. Silver prices also increased on Wednesday. The price of silver rose by Rs205 per tola compared to Tuesday. Silver, which was traded at Rs 4,820 per tola on Tuesday, reached Rs 5,025 per tola on Wednesday. A week earlier, silver was traded at Rs 4,945 per tola.
Two youths stabbed in Lalitpur’s Krishna Mandir
Two youths were stabbed in the premises of Krishna Mandir in Lalitpur after being attacked by a group of four youths. One of the victims is in critical condition, while both injured have been admitted to Patan Hospital for treatment. A police team led by DSP Purnima Chand, Chief of Police Circle Satdobato, has reached the scene. DSP Chand stated that the police are actively searching for the attackers and investigating the incident. The identities of the injured have not yet been released.
Sudurpashchim govt concerned as poverty rises by 10 percent
The government of Sudurpashchim Province has expressed concern after poverty increased by around 10 percent in the province. The provincial government, which is in the final stage of preparing its second five-year plan, stated that poverty has risen in the current fiscal year compared to FY 2020/21. The Provincial Policy and Planning Commission is currently holding discussions in various local levels across the province on the draft of the second five-year plan. According to expert member Dr Hemraj Lamichhane, poverty in Sudurpashchim, which stood at 24.6 percent during the formulation of the first five-year plan in FY 2020/21, has increased to 34.16 percent. Achham District has the highest poverty rate at 49.58 percent.
Communication Minister, World Bank delegation discuss digital transformation project
Minister for Communication and Information Technology Dr Bikram Timilsina held a meeting with a delegation led by David Sislen at his office on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the meeting, held in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on the World Bank-supported “Nepal Digital Transformation Project,” expansion of access in the information technology sector, data management, digital transformation, and governance reforms. Minister Timilsina expressed gratitude for the continued support of the World Bank in Nepal’s socio-economic development, stating that the Nepal Digital Transformation Project would be implemented at an accelerated pace.
Police post building constructed at Rs 35 million investment
The Singa Tatopani Police Post in Beni Municipality-4, Rakse, has a newly constructed building costing over Rs 35 million. The two-storey structure, built with earthquake-resistant features, was funded with support from the Gandaki Provincial Government. Deputy Superintendent of Police Chiranjivi Pratap Mahato, the engineer from the Gandaki Provincial Police Office, confirmed that the building was completed on schedule and will be inaugurated and put into operation soon. The facility includes an administrative wing, separate detention cells for men and women, a communication room, kitchen, barracks, and bedrooms. Until now, the Singa Tatopani Police Post had been operating from a rented space.
Three firms fined for violating consumer protection rules
The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has fined three firms during its regular market monitoring and inspection. According to the Department, Shankar Food Grocery Store in Kuleshwor and MDR Store, also located in Kuleshwor, were each fined Rs 20,000 following complaints identified during on-site inspections. Similarly, Gupta Gudpak Bhandar in Gongabu was fined Rs 5,000. The Department said the action was taken in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS. A total of 39 firms were inspected in a single day, of which 36 were issued directives for corrective measures.
Man arrested for assaulting senior citizen in public
A 44-year-old man has been arrested for physically assaulting a senior citizen in a public area. The District Police Range, Kathmandu, apprehended Prakash Chhetri following a video of the incident at Basantapur Durbar Square that went viral on social media, showing his violent behavior toward the elderly victim. Chhetri, a resident of Thankot, Chandragiri Municipality, is currently under investigation for indecent conduct and has been held in custody for five days, the police said.
Police clarify viral video of French national found in Pashupatinath area
Authorities have clarified the facts behind a viral video showing a French national found in a distressed condition in the Pashupatinath Temple area. According to Nepal Police, an investigation was conducted after the video circulated widely on social media, revealing the actual circumstances of the individual. Police said the French citizen has been living in Nepal for the past six years with his Nepali wife. Due to financial difficulties, the couple was unable to pay their hotel bills and had left behind personal belongings, including a passport, mobile phone and laptop, at the hotel. “He was found safely and handed over to the Department of Immigration for necessary procedures,” Nepal Police said in a statement. During questioning, it was confirmed that the belongings were not stolen or looted, but were left at the hotel because of financial problems. Police also noted that misleading claims had circulated on social media suggesting the French national had been robbed.

Tinkune Pokhari (pond), located in Chulachuli Rural Municipality-2 of Ilam, has recently emerged as a popular destination for domestic tourists. The site has been witnessing a growing influx of visitors who come to enjoy its natural beauty, take photographs, create videos, and organize picnics. Local resident Chetan Angthupo said the area has become increasingly attractive due to improved infrastructure, rich biodiversity, and easy accessibility. “There is a surge of visitors, especially on Saturdays and public holidays,” he said, adding that the area has become more vibrant with tourist activity.
Nawalparasi’s Maharajathan emerging as a hub for religious tourism
Maharajathan, located in Kawasoti, Nawalparasi (east of Bardaghat-Sustapur), is gradually becoming a popular destination for religious tourism. The temple, situated in Kawasoti-1, Hattikhor, is believed to have been established during the Sen period. Local elders say the temple was founded by King Manimukunda Sen of Palpa. Legend has it that he built this Shaktipeeth to protect the borders of his kingdom and personally worshipped it, said Chet Bahadur Thapa, chairman of the Maharaja Temple Religious Service Committee. Situated about seven kilometers north of Kawasoti Bazaar, the temple attracts devotees from Nawalpur and other districts daily.
Farmers worried over falling wheat prices
Farmers in the region have expressed concern over declining wheat prices, saying they are not receiving fair returns for their produce despite rising production costs. Farmers who sold wheat at Rs 4,000 per quintal last year are now being forced to sell it for around Rs 3,800 this season. Local farmer Ruplal Chaudhari said the drop in prices has left producers worried, especially after investing significant time and money in cultivation. He cited multiple challenges, including shortages of chemical fertilizers and seeds, as well as difficulties in ensuring timely irrigation. “We worked hard but are getting a lower price this year,” he said.
KMC moves to complete reconstruction of 200-year-old Gaganeshwor temple
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has initiated efforts to complete the reconstruction of the historic Gaganeshwor Mahadev Temple, a structure believed to be around 200 years old. The temple, located in Ward No. 32 of Kathmandu, had remained incomplete after reconstruction work funded by the provincial government stalled at the foundation stage due to budget constraints. The temple was originally destroyed in the 1990 BS earthquake in Nepal, prompting calls for its restoration. Ashaman Sangat, coordinator of the KMC Heritage and Tourism Committee, said delays in decision-making by the Department of Archaeology have hindered progress.
15 Indian pilgrims injured in bus-truck collision in Myagdi
Fifteen Indian pilgrims were injured this evening in a collision between a bus and a truck in Beni Municipality-9, Jaleshwor, Myagdi. The accident occurred when a bus (registration Ga 2 Kha 1457) traveling from Mustang to Pokhara collided with a truck (registration Ga Pr. 01001 Kha 0012) coming from Bhairahawa to Rupse in Dana. According to Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina of the District Police Office, Myagdi, the front portions of both vehicles were completely damaged. Of the 24 passengers on the bus, nine—including the driver and co-driver—escaped unhurt. The injured pilgrims were returning from the Muktinath pilgrimage in Mustang, Inspector Timilsina said.
