Women’s empowerment will lead nation toward prosperity: President

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has called on all citizens to contribute from their respective fields to end all forms of violence, discrimination and oppression against women.

Extending his best wishes on the occasion of the 116th International Women’s Day today, President Paudel said that empowering women—who make up more than half of the population—would help families, society and the nation move forward on the path of prosperity.

He stressed that equal access for women must be ensured in all sectors of the state, including education, health, employment, policymaking, decision-making processes and politics, in order to achieve the goals of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

In his message, President Paudel also expressed hope that the day would provide renewed energy, enthusiasm and inspiration for everyone to work with greater sensitivity toward realizing women’s rights, equality, empowerment and dignity.

International Women’s Day is observed every year on March 8. This year, the day is being marked with the United Nations’ theme: “Rights, Justice and Action: For All Women and Girls.”
