Nepal lose to England in thrilling match



KATHMANDU: Nepal suffered a narrow four-run defeat against England in a thrilling match played on Sunday under the ICC T20 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India.

Chasing a target of 185 runs, Nepal were restricted to 180 for six in their allotted 20 overs. Dipendra Singh Airee top-scored for Nepal with 44 runs off 29 balls, hitting six fours and a six.

Lokesh Bam contributed 39 runs off 20 balls, smashing four fours and two sixes, while skipper Rohit Paudel added 39 runs from 34 balls, including two fours and two sixes.

For England, Liam Dawson claimed two wickets, while Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Lyle Wood and Jofra Archer took one wicket each.

Earlier, England, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, posted 184 for seven in 20 overs. Jacob Bethell scored a highest 55 runs off 35 balls, including four fours and four sixes.

Harry Brook made 53 runs off 32 balls with four fours and three sixes, while Will Jacks played a quick 39-run knock off 18 balls, hitting one four and four sixes.

For Nepal, Nandan Yadav and Dipendra Singh Airee took two wickets each, while Sandeep Lamichhane and Sher Malla picked up one wicket apiece.

Nepal are placed in Group C of the World Cup alongside England, West Indies, Italy and Scotland.
