HoR election: 24 candidates in race in Kavre-2



KAVRE: A total of 24 candidates are competing for the House of Representatives seat from Constituency No. 2 in Kavrepalanchok, including 16 from political parties and eight independents, according to the District Election Office.

The upcoming election will see a contest between both established and new political forces. Major parties fielding candidates include the CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, Nepali Communist Party, and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), alongside several independents.

In the 2079 House of Representatives election, UML’s Gokul Baskota had won the constituency with 45,345 votes. In the proportional representation results, UML was ranked first, Congress second, RSP third, and Maoist Center fourth.

This election features prominent candidates such as Ashok Kumar Byanju (54), UML central member and mayor of Dhulikhel Municipality; Madhu Prasad Acharya (61), central member of Nepali Congress; Badan Kumar Bhandari (33), representing RSP; and Basundhara Humagain (55), NCP candidate and former Agriculture Minister of Bagmati Province.

Byanju said he filed his candidacy to contribute to building a prosperous nation by reforming the political system to meet contemporary needs. Acharya emphasized his aim to create a corruption-free society and deliver direct services to citizens while addressing youth concerns. Rajesh Kumar Shrestha has also filed as a rebel Congress candidate in the constituency.

Bhandari, representing RSP, highlighted his mission to empower the younger generation, promote good governance, and combat corruption. Humagain stated that his candidacy focuses on good governance, citizen welfare, farmer and worker support, and addressing the aspirations of the new generation.

Of the 24 candidates, three are women, two from political parties and one independent. No Dalit candidates are contesting, while 25 candidates belong to tribal communities. Kavrepalanchok has a total of 326,611 registered voters, with 161,100 in Constituency No. 1 and 165,511 in Constituency No. 2.
