KATHMANDU: The District Election Office, Kathmandu, has objected to the misuse of social media and some online media outlets to violate voter confidentiality regarding whom to vote for.
The office has drawn attention to the need for strict compliance with the election code of conduct and urged all concerned not to breach voter secrecy.
Citing Section 4 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, the Election Office stated that such actions constitute violations of the code and warned that legal action will be taken under prevailing laws if the practices continue.
According to the code, election campaigning is permitted only 17 days prior to polling day, following the publication of the final list of candidates. Campaign activities include rallies, public or corner meetings, publication or broadcast of campaign materials in the media, and door-to-door canvassing.
Despite repeated discussions, interactions, and public notices issued to ensure compliance, the Election Office said some political parties, their representatives, and candidates have continued to violate these provisions.
The office noted that it has received information indicating that corner meetings, campaign activities, publication and broadcast of propaganda materials, and door-to-door programs are being conducted to influence voters ahead of the authorized period.
It warned that immediate action will be taken in accordance with prevailing laws if evidence of code violations is received.
Code of Conduct Enforcement Officers Muktiram Rijal, Shivaram Bhattarai, Romakanta Kafle, Munkumar KC, Sunita Subedi, and Rukmagat Aryal jointly issued the notice, urging strict adherence to all provisions of the election code of conduct.
