Madhesh Province lawmaker Rahbar Ansari quits Prachanda-led NCP

KATHMANDU: Madhesh Province Assembly member Rahbar Ansari has quit the Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’-led Nepali Communist Party.

Ansari, who was elected as a provincial lawmaker from the Maoist Centre, formally left the party on Thursday by sending his resignation letter through postal service. He was previously listed as an alternative central committee member of the then Maoist Centre.

In his resignation letter, Ansari announced his departure by invoking revolutionary slogans written in red letters, recalling the party’s past revolutionary ideals. He addressed Prachanda as the former chair of the Maoist Centre, a symbolic move reflecting his dissent following the party’s name change after Prachanda aligned with leaders including Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Ansari also sent copies of his resignation letter to the families of martyrs of the People’s War, those who sought change but ultimately pursued power and privileges, opportunists, and what he described as the “real martyrs.”
