Rain likely to continue across Nepal until Friday

KATHMANDU: Rainfall is expected across most parts of the country today, with the current weather pattern likely to continue through Friday, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Department said weather conditions are expected to gradually improve from Saturday.

Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane said most parts of the country are currently experiencing rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. “Rain is likely to continue throughout the day. Conditions may improve somewhat from tonight, but rainfall is expected to resume in some areas on Friday afternoon,” he said.

Lamichhane said the weather would begin improving from Saturday. The country is currently being influenced by both a western low-pressure system and monsoon winds.

Although relatively less rainfall was recorded in the eastern region today, heavy rain is possible in some areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The highest rainfall recorded today was 58.2 millimetres at the Simalpani weather station in Arghakhanchi. The department classified the rainfall as heavy.

According to the department, several areas are currently experiencing moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, hail and strong winds. Such conditions have been reported in Kathmandu Valley, parts of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as some areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
