TAPLEJUNG: Two people have gone missing after a tractor fell into the Maiwakhola River at Dobhan Bazaar in Meringden Rural Municipality-3 of Taplejung on Monday morning.
The unregistered tractor was travelling from Hangpang of Aathrai Triveni Rural Municipality when it plunged about 15 meters from a bridge into the river and was swept downstream.
Following the incident, 14-year-old Sameer Nalbo of Meringden Rural Municipality-6, Nalbo, who was travelling on the tractor, reached the Area Police Office in Dobhan and informed police about the accident.
According to Kamal Bajgain, chief of the District Police Office, Taplejung, and Deputy Superintendent of Police, the tractor was found about 20 meters downstream from the bridge in the Maiwakhola River. However, the tractor driver, Sameer Baraili, and another passenger, Anil Nalbo, remain missing after being swept away by the river.
A police team led by Police Inspector Bindeshwor Yadav has been deployed to search for the missing persons. Police said the tractor belongs to Arun Veneer Company and that they are coordinating with the company’s operator, Prakash Nalbo, regarding the incident.
The accident site is located about 800 meters north of the Area Police Office in Dobhan.
