Monsoon activity brings heavy rain to several provinces



KATHMANDU: Monsoon activity is expected to remain strong across Nepal on Monday, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall to several provinces and raising the possibility of thunderstorms and snowfall in some areas.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, heavy rain is likely in mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, hilly areas of Karnali Province, and one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, while the monsoon trough has shifted northward from its average position.

As a result, the weather is generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at a few places in Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces and at one or two places in Karnali Province.

The Division has forecast generally cloudy conditions across the country on Monday. Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the mountainous region and at many places in the hilly region. Snowfall is also possible in some mountainous areas.

Similarly, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, at some places in the Terai areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at a few places in the Terai areas of Madhesh and Koshi provinces.
