KARNALI: The body of one of the four people who went missing after a vehicle plunged into the Karnali River in Dailekh last week has been recovered in Kailali District.
The vehicle, bearing registration number Karnali Province 02-001 Kha 1055, was traveling from Surkhet to Kalikot when it met with an accident at Sangetada in Chamunda Bindrasaini Municipality on Asar 18.
According to District Police Office Dailekh Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Shravan Kumar BK, the body was found in Mohanyal Rural Municipality-6 of Kailali and was identified as that of Mekhe Tiruwa, a resident of Pachaljharana Rural Municipality-9, Kalikot. The identification was confirmed by the deceased’s son, Rabindra Tiruwa.
Inspector Meera Khadka, chief of the Area Police Office, Chisapani, also confirmed the identity of the deceased.
Police said four people, including Mekhe Tiruwa, had been reported missing following the accident. The others are Srijana Khadka of Raskot Municipality-2, Kalikot, driver Tularam Subedi of Panchapuri Municipality-8, Surkhet, and co-driver Ram Prasad Subedi. The vehicle also remains missing.
Search operations have entered their fifth day, with around 100 personnel from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal and the Nepali Army deployed.
The search team is using advanced equipment, including a river vehicle magnet, sonar technology, drones and a borescope camera, in an effort to locate the remaining missing persons and the submerged vehicle.
