GORKHA: Former Home Minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Sudan Gurung has said he is confident of being cleared of questions raised over his assets following an investigation.
Addressing the first district convention of the RSP in Gorkha on Sunday, Gurung said he was fully prepared to answer queries related to his assets while serving in public office.
He also claimed that he had resigned from the post of Home Minister to facilitate the investigation process.
Referring to the ongoing probe, Gurung said he faced tough questions regarding his property but had provided clear answers. Recalling the proceedings in a lighter vein, he shared an exchange he had with members of the investigation committee.
“The committee asked me, ‘Where did you get all this property from?’ I jokingly replied, ‘Shall we also investigate your property?’” Gurung said.
He added that the committee’s report has now reached the Prime Minister’s Office and expressed confidence that he would be fully exonerated.
Gurung also hinted that, if cleared, he could be reinstated as Home Minister, while making a light-hearted request to avoid formalities in such a scenario.
“If the government appoints me Home Minister again after I receive a clean chit from the committee, please do not allow anyone to come to the ministry to congratulate me or take photographs for the first two months,” he said, adding that he wanted to focus on work.
During his address, Gurung also spoke about organisational strengthening within the party and the working style of future leadership. He argued that the district chairperson should not be Kathmandu-centric and stressed that leaders must remain in close contact with grassroots communities.
