Ban on use of drone in elections

KATHMANDU: The government has banned the use of drones in the upcoming elections. Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ananda Kafle, stated that the Central Security Committee has decided to ban the use of drones in the House of Representatives elections on March 5.

He said that since the misuse of social media is increasing, the Nepal Police will make the newly established hi-tech unit more effective to stop it.

The Home Ministry spokesperson shared that the team is also keeping an eye on individuals who provide false/misleading information and hateful expressions in violation of the election code of conduct.

Spokesperson Kafle stated that the security mechanism is closely monitoring those involved in anti-election activities to bring them to justice. He added that preparations are underway to identify polling stations without police presence or communication links and to make appropriate arrangements.

He reiterated that the Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed all security mechanisms and administrative bodies not to overlook any deficiencies in election security and to engage in its efficient management.

Spokesperson Kafle also stated that Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal provided necessary instructions to review the work being carried out, the deployment of personnel and the logistics by the responsible bodies under the Integrated Election Security Plan-2082 in order to ensure effective security management for the elections.

The Home Ministry has advised paying attention to the judicious use of social media and requested not to post false, misleading information or content that defames anyone, informing that action will be taken if such activities are carried out.
