Congress focused on changing the country, let’s unite for elections: NC President Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that only the Congress has learned from the struggles of the September 8-9 movement and reformed itself.

Speaking at a program organized by Nepali Congress, Kathmandu-5 on Saturday, President Thapa said that after the movement, Congress has corrected its path and is now on a mission to transform the country. He added that the party is now the newest it has been since holding its general convention on January 14.

President Thapa emphasized that the message of a reformed Congress should reach the grassroots level and that the party must engage with the 2.7 million voters who supported it in the past to make them understand the reality.

He further stressed that after the convention, there is no faction or opposition within the party, and everyone must unite to actively participate in the upcoming elections. Highlighting the need to end the culture of nepotism and corruption in the country, he urged members to spread the message of a “New Congress” even through social media.

Similarly, Congress General Secretary and Kathmandu-5 candidate Pradeep Paudel said that with both leadership and policies now corrected in line with citizens’ expectations, the party will regain public trust.

Although the Congress is old in terms of history, Paudel asserted, it remains unmatched in ideas and principles. He also clarified that the party does not engage in forced politics by importing ideas from others.

He added that one cannot prove worthiness merely by criticizing others; instead, a party can stand out through clear vision and agenda.
