Kathmandu Valley records higher initial minimum temperature

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley saw a rise in its early-morning temperature today, with the initial minimum recorded higher than the previous day.

The minimum temperature recorded in Kathmandu at 5:45 am stood at 7.4 degrees Celsius. At the same time yesterday (Friday), the minimum temperature in the Valley was 6.3 degrees Celsius.

However, this is a preliminary reading. The day’s official minimum temperature will be recorded at 8:45 am, and it is likely to be slightly lower than the early-morning measurement.

Meteorologists explain that the lowest temperature recorded during a day is considered the minimum temperature, while the highest is recorded as the maximum temperature. When the sky remains cloudy at night, the morning minimum temperature tends to be higher, whereas it drops when the sky is clear.

Conversely, during the daytime, cloud cover reduces the maximum temperature by blocking sunlight, while clear skies allow temperatures to rise.

The Division measures daily minimum and maximum temperatures across the country, including Kathmandu Valley.
