Local level closes schools to avoid severe cold in Kailali

KAILALI: Gauriganga Municipality in Kailali district has closed all schools for a week to protect students from the impact of severe cold.

According to the municipality, teaching and learning activities have been severely affected by a cold wave and falling temperatures. As a result, the municipal office decided to shut schools for a week starting tomorrow.

Thick fog and haze have blanketed the area, worsening the cold wave and adding to the hardships faced by local residents.

Earlier, Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City and Gauriganga Municipality distributed firewood to locals to help them cope with the cold.

While the hilly regions of Sudurpaschim are experiencing sunny weather, the southern plains have been covered in dense fog and haze for several days. Locals said the prolonged cold conditions have also adversely affected winter crops.
