Haze disrupts daily life in the Terai

KATHMANDU: Dense haze has affected the Terai belt of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces since Wednesday morning, significantly reducing visibility and disrupting daily activities.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, haze and fog are likely to persist across most Terai areas through the afternoon and continue into the night.

In contrast, weather conditions in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali provinces are expected to remain partly cloudy, while most other areas will see generally fair conditions. However, the Kathmandu Valley has also experienced deteriorating air quality due to fog and pollution.

Authorities have advised the public, especially children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions, to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and take precautionary measures.

The combined impact of haze, fog and pollution has made daily life increasingly challenging in the Terai region, prompting the Meteorological Forecasting Division to urge heightened caution until conditions improve.
