Department of Commerce fines two firms for consumer law violations



KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has imposed cash fines on two firms after identifying irregularities during on-site inspections.

Manjushree Plastic Industries, located in Changunarayan-2, Bhaktapur, has been fined Rs 200,000, while Shree Polythene and Plastic Industries Pvt. Ltd. of Kathmandu has been fined Rs 50,000.

According to the department, action was taken against the two industries under Section 16(2)(a) and Section 38 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS, in accordance with Section 39(1)(b) of the same Act.

The department carried out inspections at 17 industries and firms in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts. Of these, 15 firms were issued corrective instructions.

The department said it has been conducting regular monitoring and inspections in coordination with local administrations and consumer rights activists to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws.
