KATHMANDU: The Gauri Bahadur Karki-led probe panel has revealed that a total of 76 people were killed and more than 2,500 were injured during the Gen-Z protests that took place across the country on September 8 and 9, 2025.
The findings are based on an analysis of evidence collected during the investigation, providing a detailed account of human casualties.
According to the report, 20 men were killed on September 8, while on September 9, two women and 18 men lost their lives.
The report also states that an additional 36 individuals who were injured by police gunfire later died during treatment.
In total, 51 protesters died from bullet injuries. A further nine people died due to burns caused by arson and explosions. Three individuals died due to police beatings, while one Indian national died after jumping from a window. The cause of death of one person remains unknown.
Geographical analysis shows that Kathmandu recorded the highest number of deaths.
As per the report, 54 people died in Kathmandu alone. In prisons located in Banke, Ramechhap, and Dhading, 10 people lost their lives. Other districts reported fatalities including 30 in Jhapa, 30 in Kaski, 20 in Sunsari, 20 in Lalitpur, 10 in Chitwan, and 10 in Bhaktapur.
Among the deceased, the highest number—35 individuals—were youths aged between 14 and 29.
A total of 2,522 people were injured during the protests. Of them, 1,328 were protesters, while 2,068 were security personnel, according to the report.
The government has provided Rs 35,000 per injured individual in two installments through District Administration Offices for treatment and relief.
At present, three injured individuals are still undergoing treatment, while the rest have been discharged.
