KATHMANDU: Gagan Kumar Thapa has registered his candidacy for the post of president at the Nepali Congress’ 15th General Convention.
Thapa, who was elected party president at the special General Convention, has registered his candidacy for a full term at the 15th General Convention. He became president at the special General Convention held in the final week of last December.
Sher Bahadur Deuba had earlier been elected Nepali Congress president at the party’s 14th General Convention. The party had called the special General Convention citing the changed political circumstances following the protests of September 8 and 9.
Kishor Singh Rathore has also registered his candidacy to compete against Thapa for the presidency. Likewise, Shyam Krishna Khadki has registered his candidacy for the post.
Other leaders are also expected to register their candidacies for the presidency. The Nepali Congress has set 6 pm Tuesday as the deadline for candidacy registration.
