KATHMANDU: Green Army Nepal has expressed serious concern over news reports and social media posts claiming that the organization has been dissolved.
Issuing a statement on Sunday, the organization said reports suggesting that Green Army Nepal had been dissolved were baseless, misleading and unverified.
“Green Army Nepal has taken serious note of news reports and materials being circulated by some media outlets and on social media suggesting that the organization has been dissolved,” the statement said.
The organization said such reports, published and circulated without verifying its official legal status and records maintained by the concerned authorities, had created unnecessary confusion among the organization, its affiliated students, youths, trainers, parents and well-wishers.
According to the statement, Green Army Nepal is a social organization working in areas including environmental protection, disaster risk reduction, rescue and relief support, sanitation, tree plantation, environmental awareness, leadership development, first aid, social service and various school-level programs.
Founder and chief of the organization Sabin Sharma said Green Army Nepal was also aware of misleading materials that had been circulated at different times regarding its establishment and operation.
He urged that any official information concerning Green Army Nepal be made public only on the basis of verified records maintained by the organization’s office and the concerned government authorities.
“Whether an organization has been dissolved cannot be determined through general assumptions or information circulating on social media. It must be confirmed through an official decision and records of the concerned authority. Therefore, we request that unverified claims that Green Army Nepal has been dissolved not be disseminated as news or information,” the statement said.
Green Army Nepal said it has continued its activities in line with its objectives, including environmental protection, social service, disaster management, rescue and relief support, student and youth mobilization, and public awareness programs, in accordance with institutional procedures and prevailing laws.
The organization also urged media outlets and publishers that had circulated inaccurate information to verify the facts and make necessary corrections.
It further appealed to citizens, parents, students, youths, trainers, schools and well-wishers not to form opinions based on unverified content circulating on social media and to obtain information through the organization’s official sources.
