KATHMANDU: The foundation stone for a memorial park honouring Gen-Z martyrs has been laid on the Parliament premises, with Home Minister Sudan Gurung pledging to fulfil the aspirations for which they sacrificed their lives.
The foundation stone was jointly laid by government representatives and the families of the martyrs on Sunday.
Speaking to the media at the ceremony, Home Minister Sudan Gurung said the government was committed to fulfilling the dreams of the Gen-Z activists who sacrificed their lives for the country.
Minister Gurung said that although it may take time to fulfil the aspirations raised during the movement and meet the expectations of the people, the government would remain firmly committed to achieving its objectives, keeping in mind the sacrifices made by the martyrs.
He said constructing the memorial park alone would not constitute justice for the martyred Gen-Z activists, adding that much more work remained to be done.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Sunil Lamsal said past movements for the rights of various communities, classes and sectors in Nepal had brought significant political and social changes.
He said the achievements of those movements now needed to be institutionalised and translated into tangible improvements in people’s lives.
Lamsal expressed commitment to moving the country forward on the path of good governance, development and prosperity without allowing the opportunities created through thousands of dreams and sacrifices to go to waste.
The previous interim government led by Sushila Karki had decided to establish a park in memory of the Gen-Z martyrs.
