KATHMANDU: Nepali kickboxer Abiral Ghimire has achieved another major milestone in his career by being crowned world champion.
Ghimire defeated French kickboxer Mathon Choinard in the main event of the Hit Kick Boxing – 59th International Sports Kick Boxing Federation World Championship, held Saturday at Kariya Hall in Nagoya, Japan. Choinard, a formidable opponent, had been the reigning world champion since 2025.
Ghimire secured a stunning victory by knocking out Choinard with a powerful punch in the second minute of the second round.
With 29 international bouts under his belt, Ghimire has established himself as one of Nepal’s leading kickboxers. He is the only Nepali athlete to have recorded 21 international victories, including an impressive 20 wins by knockout.
Known by the nickname “Himalayan Cheetah,” Ghimire has emerged as a prominent figure in Nepali kickboxing and has represented Nepal on the international stage.
Speaking to the national news agency RSS after his victory, Ghimire expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa. He also pledged to support the victims of the disaster.
