CHITWAN: The water level of the Narayani River has crossed the warning threshold due to continuous heavy rainfall in its upstream catchment, prompting authorities to issue flood alerts for riverside communities.
Although Chitwan and surrounding areas have not received significant rainfall, persistent rain in the upper watershed has caused a sharp rise in the river’s flow.
The District Administration Office, Chitwan, and security agencies have urged residents to remain vigilant, while the Flood Forecasting Division has warned that the river level is likely to continue rising until August 8.
Security personnel from the Narayangadh Area Police Office and the Chitwan District Police Office have been deployed along vulnerable riverbanks since Thursday morning.
Police have been using public address systems to advise people to stay away from the river and move to safer locations if necessary.
Authorities have also relocated street vendors and other businesses operating along the riverbank to safer areas.
With water levels expected to increase further, residents living in low-lying areas along the Narayani River have been urged to exercise extreme caution and follow instructions issued by security agencies.
